We are Electrify 2515

Our group was founded in 2022 by a group of optimistic, non-partisan, local volunteers from all walks of life dedicated to advancing climate action in our own community and beyond. We’re keen to show what's possible for 2515, for Australia, and for the world!

How we got here

In 2022, our group of 2515 locals started an independent, grassroots campaign to reduce fossil fuel emissions through household electrification. An overwhelming 30% of 2515 residents (1500 households out of 4500) responded to our initial survey, indicating strong support for a community electrification project.

Energised by this support, we worked with Rewiring Australia to apply for funding from Australia’s Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) and invited partners Brighte and Endeavour Energy to join us in delivering this pilot project.

The aim of the Electrify 2515 Community Pilot is to accelerate electrification across the nation by gathering learnings about consumer motivations, electric appliance installation at scale, long-term behaviour change, and impacts on the grid.

Ultimately, we’re calling on governments to support every household to go electric. By doing so, Australians could collectively save $680 billion on home energy costs by 2050 ($1.7 trillion if we also electrify our cars). This would be a win for households, a win for our energy future, and a win for climate action.

Video: Our group’s origin story features in this inspiring episode of Australian Story profiling Dr Saul Griffith.

Inspired by 2515 local, Dr Saul Griffith and his book The Big Switch, our goal is to create Australia’s first all-electric suburb right here in our own postcode.

But the Electrify 2515 Community Pilot isn’t all we’ve been busy with. While working to bring the pilot to life, we have also:

  • Coordinated a large local survey to gauge local interest in household electrification. (This helped to demonstrate to decision-makers that 2515 was a suitable location for an electrification pilot).

  • Coordinated a community solar rollout program, partnering with local solar providers to install solar panels at a discounted price. This initiative added more than 800kW of additional solar capacity in our local area.

  • Hosted an EV and E-bike Open Day

  • Organised electric transport bulk buys and discounts;

  • Curated and created high-quality home electrification resources to share with our community.

Meet our partners

  • Founded by Austinmer local Dr Saul Griffith, Rewiring Australia is a non-profit research and advocacy organisation focused on accelerating the adoption of clean energy through the electrification of everything.

  • Our local electrical distribution network operator, Endeavour Energy will install network monitors and assess and support network impacts. This includes understanding how energy loads can be managed and generating insights.
